Dr Darren Adamson

I am not a run of the mill Psychologist.  I don’t match the stereotypes, I don’t fit the moulds. Yet, it’s from this perspective where my success with clients lies. I’m approachable and down to earth with lived experience of mental health issues. This means that I have developed a sense of empathy that has evolved from my personal experiences of therapy and the processes of change.

My practice is an integrative, holistic style of therapy underpinned by a humanistic approach, which draws on a number of theoretical modalities and techniques.  What this means is that I will assess you as an individual and treat you as such.  My ethos has always been to put the person before the problem.  I have found this to be highly successful in supporting clients with a wide range of difficulties with lasting success.

The support you would like and an explanation of how I work is discussed in full during an initial assessment.

Taking the first steps to get help can be daunting. This is why I always offer therapy in an emotionally supportive and empathetic manner to help you to achieve the changes that you are looking for. As a psychologist I work with the processes of change; though change is never easy, it’s always worthwhile.

I’m fully trained in a diverse range of therapies. This means when we first meet for your consultation, we can consider which approaches may be the best fit for you and therefore the most effective, ensuring you a unique and individualised treatment plan.

This is a journey that we will embark upon together and I will be there to support you with the challenges along the way. I have struggled with my own mental health in the past and have sought help.  The problems that I have faced in my own life have taught me just how important feeling connected with others is in building and maintaining our emotional well-being. It is this connectedness that is at the heart of the therapy that I’ll offer you.

I am an experienced, fully qualified Psychologist and a chartered member of the British Psychological Society. I am the lead psychologist at Beacon Therapy, based in the heart of Northumberland.

I have many years post qualifying clinical experience. After a number of years in teaching, I completed a Masters in Psychology and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. During my career I have worked with adult populations in NHS and private sector drug and alcohol rehabilitation settings.

I have experience of working with individuals and couples.
